New Pathways to Finance Zero-Emission Buses
The whitepaper was originally developed in early 2024 to help municipalities and transport operators identify alternative funding options after the federal program for buses with alternative drives was discontinued.
With the unexpected third call of the federal program in early July 2025, that need may seem less urgent at first glance. But appearances are deceptive: the submission window is very short — the call closes on 31 August — and it initially targets public entities first, then private operators. The accelerated timeline also won’t align with many municipalities’ and operators’ internal procurement schedules.
This whitepaper delivers viable alternatives for exactly those stakeholders. Several German states continue to offer their own funding programs for the procurement and operation of zero-emission buses — in some cases an even better fit for specific projects.
